![]() Choose or Die is honestly a lot of fun and a great casual watch for horror buffs and novices alike! - Brynna Arens Its short 84-minute runtime is an asset, not a hindrance, allowing the movie to dive straight into the horror without unnecessary fluff dragging it down. ![]() Choose or Die feels both nostalgic and fresh, paying homage to classic video games while delivering a narrative that hasn’t been done to death. But as they learn of the malevolent forces that went into the game’s conception, they realize that winning and staying alive may not be as easy as they think. Forced to continue playing, Kayla and her friend Isaac ( Asa Butterfield) try to find a way to stop the game for good - it is just code after all. It has the ability to warp reality and force Kayla to make deadly decisions that affect people in real life. However, the game is more than just a simple choose-your-own-adventure meets horror campaign. Almost everyone involved with the films shows up here - except Johnny Depp. When Kayla ( Iola Evans) discovers an old ‘80s computer game that comes with a yet-to-be-claimed $100,000 cash prize for anyone who beats it, her curiosity and family’s need for money drive her to give the game a try. ![]() Less a documentary and more a loving tribute, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy still manages to convey some juicy behind-the-scenes stories from the tireless Freddy Krueger saga. ![]() There’s a charming quality to all the stupidity on display here, and when Peter O’Toole shows up as a stuffy Weekly World News-style reporter, it only gets better.ĥ. Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street LegacyĮxplore the origins of “dream demon” Freddy Krueger in this award-winning documentary that takes you behind the scenes of the most frightening and imaginative horror franchise in motion picture history! | Got four hours to kill? Then sit back and enjoy this exhaustive and exhausting documentary that chronicles the entire blood-soaked Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. It’s dumb, dumb, dumb - but oddly delightful. It also features a giant moth monster that eats Liev Schreiber’s face off. Adapted for the screen by hacky horror writer Dean Koontz (from his own novel), Phantoms features a ridiculously young Ben Affleck playing a ridiculously young local cop who also used to be an FBI agent. | Look, let me be blunt - Phantoms is a stupid movie. And now, it’s up to a group of people to stop it, or at least get out of Snowfield alive. In the peaceful town of Snowfield, Colorado something evil has wiped out the community. Oh, and Viggo Mortensen shows up at one point as THE DEVIL. He has to battle priest-turned-cop Elias Koteas and schoolteacher-turned-badass Virginia Madsen. The angel Gabriel comes to Earth to collect a soul which will end the stalemated war in Heaven, and only a former priest and a little girl can stop him.| A weird, wonderful slice of 90s horror, Gregory Widen’s The Prophecy has Christopher Walken decked out in leather pants and a helmet of black hair as the surprisingly evil angel Gabriel. Stir of Echoes also features one of the most realistic portrayals of hypnosis ever put on film, and if you’re not careful it might hypnotize you into seeing some ghosts! Probably not though! But that would be something, huh? Which is a shame, because this is a creepy, tightly constructed chill-fest featuring Kevin Bacon at his Bacony best and Law and Order: Criminal Intent star Kathryn Erbe sporting tattoos. Sixth Sense had such a massive impact on the very concept of “ghost movies” that other films in the genre got pushed to the side or ignored. | David Koepp’s Stir of Echoes had the rotten luck of hitting theaters the same year (1999) as The Sixth Sense. Watch it with the lights out, and then grow instantly suspicious of your friends and loved ones the moment it ends.Īfter being hypnotized by his sister in law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl’s ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around him. | Perry Blackshear’s They Look Like People totally took me by surprise - it creeps under your skin almost from the get-go, and spins an unsettling portrait of what may be the horrors of mental illness, or something worse - much worse. Suspecting that people around him are turning into evil creatures, a troubled man questions whether to protect his only friend from an impending war, or from himself.
